java.net.UnknownHostException

tip

Check if you don't have a VPN or something like this messing with your connection. Also, check Jenkins DNS configurations (try to start it with "--dns 8.8.8.8".

You have a different solution? A short tip here would help you and many other users who saw this issue last week.

  • I'm behind a proxy that requires authentication. Hudson works fine with this but I cannot build it due to a unit test failure. It would seem that UpdateCenterTest cannot cope with a proxy. The test should either be configurable for the proxy, or it should be able to selectively disable this test in the build. The surefire failure is as follows: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Test set: hudson.model.UpdateCenterTest ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tests run: 1, Failures: 0, Errors: 1, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 0.125 sec <<< FAILURE! testData(hudson.model.UpdateCenterTest) Time elapsed: 0.109 sec <<< ERROR! java.net.UnknownHostException: hudson.dev.java.net at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:177) at java.net.Socket.connect(Socket.java:519) at java.net.Socket.connect(Socket.java:469) at sun.net.NetworkClient.doConnect(NetworkClient.java:157) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(HttpClient.java:394) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(HttpClient.java:529) at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsClient.<init>(HttpsClient.java:271) at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsClient.New(HttpsClient.java:328) at sun.net.www.protocol.https.AbstractDelegateHttpsURLConnection.getNewHttpClient (AbstractDelegateHttpsURLConnection.java:172) at sun.net.www.protocol.http.HttpURLConnection.plainConnect (HttpURLConnection.java:729) at sun.net.www.protocol.https.AbstractDelegateHttpsURLConnection.connect (AbstractDelegateHttpsURLConnection.java:158) at sun.net.www.protocol.http.HttpURLConnection.getInputStream (HttpURLConnection.java:977) at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsURLConnectionImpl.getInputStream (HttpsURLConnectionImpl.java:234) at java.net.URL.openStream(URL.java:1009) at hudson.model.UpdateCenterTest.testData(UpdateCenterTest.java:18)
