Attempting to load the Apereo news feed which has a certificate that the Java 7 JDK's cacerts file doesn't recognize generates an exception as noted below. It seems to me the cert should be recognized as valid, but it does not appear to be. If I import the cert chain into the java JRE's cacerts file, then the feed displays properly. We can't expect people using the quickstart to do this though. Further, on a tabbed reader this causes none of the feeds to display (see attached screenshot). This can be seen by creating a tabbed newsreader with the quickstart data set (manage portlets - register a new Newsreader/news portlet). The issue can be seen using the old Jasig uPortal news feed URL http://www.jasig.org/taxonomy/term/163/all/feed, or the new Apereo news URL https://www.apereo.org/uportal-news/feed (as of the time of this writing, the browser validates the apereo certificate but java even as recent as 1.7.0_67 fails for some reason even though the root CA looks to me to be in the JRE cacerts keystore -- see attached JavaHttps.java file to demonstrate this issue). 16:31:32,014 [uP-PortletExec-3-admin-RESOURCE-[news]] WARN adapter.RomeAdapter - Error fetching feed javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException: peer not authenticated at sun.security.ssl.SSLSessionImpl.getPeerCertificates(SSLSessionImpl.java:397) at org.apache.http.conn.ssl.AbstractVerifier.verify(AbstractVerifier.java:126) ... 16:31:32,019 [uP-PortletExec-3-admin-RESOURCE-[news]] WARN reader.AjaxNewsController - org.jasig.portlet.newsreader.adapter.NewsException: Error fetching feed
