I have a REST method that produces JSON output and throws a custom exception. The exception is mapped to an entity using an ExceptionMapper and the entity is annotated with @XmlRootElement. This works as expected using Jersey <= 2.4.1 in that the response body is the mapped entity marshalled as JSON. When using Jersey 2.5 or 2.5.1, this causes the following exception to be thrown while marshalling the mapped entity to JSON. {{Feb 13, 2014 3:19:05 PM org.glassfish.jersey.server.ServerRuntime$Responder process SEVERE: Error occurred when processing a response created from an already mapped exception. 2014-02-13 15:19:05.427:WARN:oejs.ServletHandler: javax.servlet.ServletException: HTTP 500 Internal Server Error ... long stack trace ... Caused by: Exception [EclipseLink-25007] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 2.5.0.v20130507-3faac2b): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.XMLMarshalException|Exception Description: A descriptor for class resttest.App$ExceptionResponse was not found in the project. For JAXB, if the JAXBContext was bootstrapped using TypeMappingInfo[] you must call a marshal method that accepts TypeMappingInfo as an input parameter.}} I am attaching a self-contained example demonstrating the problem as well as the full stack trace. Changing back to Jersey 2.4.1 resolves the problem. Changing the return type of the REST method to void results in the exception being marshalled as expected. Changing the method to produce XML instead of JSON results in the exception being marshalled as expected. JIRA | 3 years ago | tonyabbott HTTP 500 Internal Server Error
